Meditation has been a passion of mine since my late teens.  While I didn’t enjoy much of my required readings in high school I, rather surprisingly, found myself deeply drawn to the book Sidhartha.  I devoured that book.  It opened a door, allowing me to get a glimpse into the workings of the mind with all its various states of being and perceiving.  When I look back I realize that book is what got me started on my journey that led me to where I am today.

Meditation

In my late twenties I immersed myself deeply in a meditation technique called Vipassana.  I’ve had a few teachers over the years but numerous SN Goenka ten day retreats were what built my practice foundation.  For me it all starts with breath work.  The breath is the perfect tool for developing awareness and gaining skills in concentration.  Being proficient in both allows for a deep diving into the workings of the mind, body and spirit.   It encourages and supports a quiet mind and a still presence.  Not grasping, not craving, not resisting, not fighting. Just being present.

The breath is a bridge to mindfulness, to Vipassana and really to all concentration and insight based meditations.   At The Whisper Within we emphasize developing a solid foundation in breath work.  We also teach mindfulness meditation, Vipassana meditation, and Qigong meditation to name a few.
